The purpose of adaptive riding is to offer recreational horseback riding lessons to people with special needs. The environment in which riders learn horsemanship and riding skills is tailored to their individual needs and learning styles. Instruction is provided to riders of all skill levels, from the very first contact with a horse to the training of athletes for competition. Participants in adaptive riding programs have riding-skills-based goals, however they often report therapeutic benefits, such as improvements in strength, balance, coordination, mobility, etc.
